What we believe

The Meaning of Home Fact Sheet. Best practice for people with disability in home and community living.

The National Alliance of Capacity Building Organisations (NACBO) believes that all people with disability deserve to live in a home that is more than just a bed, a room in someone else’s home or basic shelter. Having a secure and stable home that other citizens would clearly recognise and maybe even envy can open doors to community, growth and connection. This paper explores some of the reasons why this is so often out of the reach of people who live with disabilities and provides guidelines for change.

In this factsheet we draw on our collective experience of supporting people with disabilities to have homes of their own. We have included 23 stories that illustrate that with the right support, this is possible for everyone, regardless of their level of disability or where they live in Australia. This paper has been sent to the Disability Royal Commission and includes four recommendations that we believe would help to make stories like this part of accepted and indeed expected practice for all people with disability in Australia.

Self-Management Fact Sheet

The National Alliance of Capacity Building Organisations (NACBO) welcomes the option for people with disability to self-manage their supports under the NDIS.

In this fact sheet, we outline reasons why we believe self-management is important for people with disability and their families to build full and meaningful lives. We also share the practices that we believe make self-management work well.

Resourcing Employment

The member organisations of NACBO have a strong commitment to promoting and supporting the employment of people with disability.

We have gathered a collection of resources which showcase the history of work we have done in this area in creating practical and outcomes-driven resources that can assist people with disability and their families, colleagues, employers and potential employers as they pursue open employment in ordinary workplaces.
